Unraveling the Mystique

The Baraadsar lake trek is one of the most difficult treks in North-Western Garhwal Uttarkashi region of Uttarakhand due to its steep climbing nature. It is about 4400 m above sea level & falls between the rupin and supin valleys while being close to the border of two Himalayan states of Uttarakhand & Himachal Pradesh.

A new entry in the trekking grid, it is one of the Unxplord treks of the state & offers a mesmerizing view of picturesque meadows, brown oak and pine forests, massive clearings with breathtaking mountain views, and finally over a ridge that separates the Rupin and Supin valleys with excellent panoramic views. A comparatively difficult trek, this trek requires previous experience and good fitness levels.

Detailed Itinerary

Dehradun to Sankri

Arrive in Sankri, a picturesque village located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.
From Delhi: 420 Kms & 12 Hrs | From Dehradun: 200 Kms & 8-9 Hrs
Meet & greet your trekking guide and fellow trekkers.
Spend the day exploring Sankri's charming surroundings and acclimatizing to the altitude.
Overnight stay in a guesthouse in Sankri.

Seema to Har Ki Dun

Resume your trek towards Har Ki Dun after breakfast.
Trek through beautiful meadows and charming villages, with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
Cross the Supin River and continue ascending towards Har Ki Dun.
Arrive at Har Ki Dun, a picturesque valley surrounded by snow-capped peaks.
Set up camp near the river and spend the evening exploring the valley.

Har Ki Dun to Ruinsara Tal

After breakfast, trek from Har Ki Dun to Ruinsara Tal, a stunning glacial lake.
The trail offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, including Swargarohini and Bandarpunch.
Stop for lunch at Devsu Bugyal, a picturesque meadow.
Continue trekking towards Ruinsara Tal, passing through alpine forests and meadows.
Reach Ruinsara Tal by late afternoon and set up camp beside the lake.

Baraadsar Lake

Wake up early to catch the sunrise over Ruinsara Tal.
After breakfast, begin your trek towards Baraadsar Lake.
The trail ascends steeply through rocky terrain and snowfields, offering panoramic views of the Himalayas.
Reach Baraadsar Lake, a serene alpine lake surrounded by towering peaks.
Set up camp near the lake and spend the evening admiring the beauty of your surroundings.

Exploration and Acclimatization

Spend the day at Baraadsar Lake for acclimatization and exploration.
Take short hikes around the lake to enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Explore nearby attractions such as the Kyarkoti Valley and the Baraadsar Pass.

Direct bus or shared taxi to Mori, Sankri or Purola. Step-down at Purola and take a shared taxi for Sankri.
Direct bus or shared taxi to Mussoorie. Catch a direct shared taxi to Purola or Mori.

Important note: The frequency of direct public transport from Dehradun to Sankri is very low.

By Train to Baraadsar Lake Base-station, Sankri: The nearest railway station is Dehradun.
By Flight to Baraadsar Lake Base-station, Sankri: The nearest airport is Dehradun Airport.
