Kuari Pass trek at an altitude of 14,000 ft is also known as the "Curzon Trail. Kuari Pass is famous for the spectacular view of India's second highest peak, Mt. Nanda Devi It is also a home to summit views of various other big mountains like Dronagiri, Chitrakantha, Chaukhamba, and Tali top.

This beautiful trek is sprinkled unparalleled scenic trail in the midst of meadows, beautiful forests blooming with rhododendron, and oak trees. Not only that, you also get to admire the beauty & engage with the prelude of India's holiest river - Alaknanda & Bhagirathi which join to form River Ganga as they move down. Follow in the footsteps of Lord Curzon, who first explored this route, and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Garhwal Himalayas.

Detailed Itinerary

Haridwar or Rishikesh to Joshimath

Start your journey from Rishikesh early in the morning.
Distance from Haridwar or Rishikesh to Joshimath: Approx. 276 Kms & 11-12 Hrs.
Enjoy a scenic drive through the picturesque landscapes of Uttarakhand including Devprayag, Dhari Devi Temple and Rudraprayag.
Arrive in Joshimath, a charming town nestled in the Chamoli district.
Check into your accommodation and spend the evening exploring Joshimath.

Gulling top to Khulara

Next morning, resume your trek towards Khulara after breakfast.
Trek Distance: Approx. 3 Kms one side & 3-4 Hrs.
The trek is of moderate difficulty and offers stunning views of Nanda Devi and other peaks.
Trek through scenic landscapes of alpine meadows and rhododendron forests.
Reach Khullara, a picturesque campsite overlooking the valley, and set up camp for the night.

Khullara to Tali Top via Kuari Pass and Back

Wake up early to begin your trek to Kuari Pass.
Trek Distance: Approx. 8 Kms one side & 6-7 Hrs.
Trek through rocky terrain and snowfields, with panoramic views of the Himalayas.
Reach Kuari Pass, a breathtaking vantage point offering stunning views of Nanda Devi and other peaks.
Spend some time at the pass, soaking in the beauty of the surroundings.
Descend back to Khullara campsite for the night.

Joshimath to Haridwar or Rishikesh

Bid farewell to the mountains and the memories created during the trek.
Distance from Joshimath to Rishikesh or Haridwar: Approx. 276 Kms & 11-12 Hrs.
Check out from your accommodation and proceed to Rishikesh for your onward journey.
Enjoy the scenic drive back to Rishikesh, reflecting on your unforgettable experiences.

Shared taxi & bus to Joshimath frequently from RIshikesh, Haridwar or Dehradun every morning.
Direct bus or shared taxi to Rudraprayag, Srinagar or Gopeshwar. Step-down at any of the mentioned towns and take a shared taxi for Joshimath.
Direct bus or shared taxi to Badrinath every morning from Haridwar. Get down at Joshimath.
Or you can directly hire a taxi to Kuari Pass Base-station, Joshimath from Haridwar, Rishikesh, Delhi or Dehradun.

Important note: The frequency of direct public transport from Rishikesh/Haridwar to Joshimath is moderately okay.

Here is an overview of average temperatures of Kuari Pass trek throughout the year:

Summers: Avg temperatures between 4 & 24 degrees. Warm Days and Cool Nights. Best for comfortable weather, easy trails and low crowds (May to June).
Monsoon: Avg temperatures below 15 degrees. Frequent rains, wet, windy and dangerous (July & August).
Autumn: Avg temperatures between 0 & 15 degrees. Pleasant Days and Cold Nights. Best for clear and crisp Himalayan views, amazing sunrise & sunsets, green lush meadows and lot of colours (September to November).
Winters: Avg. temperatures between -10 & 14 degrees. Temperatures will go sub zero during nights. Best for snowy trails and challenging terrain. (December to February).
Spring: Avg. temperatures between 0 & 17 degrees. Temperatures can go zero during nights. Best for receeding snow and the colour contrast of blooming vegetation (March & April).
